Superintendent, Pomona Unified School District (PUSD)

Richard Martinez serves as Superintendent of Pomona Unified School District, which services roughly 30,000 students in the cities of Diamond Bar and Pomona, California. Since assuming leadership of PUSD in 2009, he has focused diligently on closing the achievement gap for inner-city students and has already seen increased acceptance rates from esteemed colleges and Ivy League universities across the country.

Having served nearly three decades in education, Richard has distinguished himself as a team-builder and results-driven educational administrator. He recently received the Francis M. Wheat Community Service Award for his advocacy for children’s rights and, in 2014, was lauded by the White House and specifically by President Obama for bringing innovative digital learning initiatives into schools.

Richard also serves on the Boards of Directors of the Alliance for Children’s Rights and The Music Center.
